EVs drive about 20% of industry growth, lift Mahindra, Tata past Hyundai in FY26
New Delhi: Aggressive electric vehicle (EV) plays by Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd played a big role in EVs making up a fifth of the over 540,000 additional vehicles sold in fiscal year 2026, data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (Fada) showed. That number was 8% in the previous fiscal year.

Volkswagen India eyes above-industry growth, flags portfolio gaps as focus areas
Volkswagen India is targeting growth above industry benchmarks, banking on new product interventions and a sharper premiumisation strategy. Speaking at the debut of the updated Taigun, Nitin Kohli, brand director, Volkswagen India said “Any new model intervention in the industry tends to drive growth of around 18–22%. Our attempt is to do better than this with the products we are bringing in,” the spokesperson said.

Mercedes-Benz India logs record FY26 sales; premium models, EVs power growth
Mercedes-Benz India posted its best-ever annual performance in FY26, retailing 19,363 vehicles, a 2% year-on-year increase, driven by strong demand for top-end luxury models and electric vehicles. The German carmaker also began calendar 2026 on a firm footing, with first-quarter sales rising 7% to 5,131 units.
Mercedes to hike prices again; luxury market splits with BMW
Mercedes-Benz India on Thursday said it will hike prices of its luxury cars by a further 2–4% in the second quarter of 2026, after already raising prices by 4% in recent months, as rising geopolitical disruptions, freight costs and currency pressures push up input expenses. These moves that come even as the luxury market splits between its top-end focused strategy and BMW’s broader growth playbook.
